Avoid Workplace Stress This Fall

10th September 2018

Everyone who has ever held a job has felt the pressures of workplace stress. Good stress management is important in the workplace, if you often experience feelings of stress you might be at risk of developing a mental health problem, like depression or anxiety- as well as it negatively effecting your personal life. Building resilience can help you adapt to challenging circumstances.

Avoid Conflict

Everyone has their own style of working and reacting to situations. Problems are bound to come when individuals work together but the last thing you want is conflicts between colleagues affecting the workplace energy and creating a stressful and unproductive work environment. If an argument within the office is brewing, avoid partaking in discussions in it- by partaking in the conversation you are involving yourself and your comments can fuel the fire as well as used against you. It’s normal to experience workplace stress  and need to vent but do this away from the office where there’s no risk of being overheard or your comments passed back to others. If you are having trouble resolving a conflict and it has gone on for some time, consider working with a mediator to help dissolve some of the stress. Seek advice from someone who knows both parties within conflict, like your company HR department or senior leadership.

Start Your Day Off Right

Starting your day right has a lot to do with your success. Many people forget that morning hours leading up to mid-day are enormously important, these hours form the foundation of the entire day. Jim Rohn said "Either you run the day or the day runs you." Studies have shown a connection between waking up early and productive  performance. A Harvard Business Review article recently stated that "people whose performance peaks in the morning are better positioned for career success, because they're more proactive than people who are at their best in the evening." Recognize your strengths and how your energy shifts throughout the day and plan your schedule accordingly. Purposeful plan will guide you tomorrow and jump start your day

Stay Organized

Being organized significantly decrease workplace stress. Planning ahead means less rushing, less stressing and overall being more efficient at work. Invest in a notebook and compile your weekly task you’re needing to complete. As small as an act it may seem, the satisfaction you get with each task crossed off will positively impact your day and keep you focused. Notebooks help you achieve more, think clearly, and do work that actually matters. If you’re an employer, investing in lined notebooks for your employees is a great way to kick start this organized way of thinking. If you don’t know exactly what’s expected of you, or tasks keep changing with little notice, you may find yourself more stressed than necessary.
